Barking

Dear Jasmine,
My humans tend to get mad at me when I bark. I believe they think I am doing it just to annoy them! How can I get them to understand there is always a reason for me to speak?
Sincerely,
Loud puppy

Dear Loud puppy,
This seems to be a very common issue when dealing with human animal communication. Humans may not understand that there is always a reason for us to bark. They think that the only time we should bark is when we are warning them of another human approaching. BUT, we also bark out of play and anxiety and boredom which humans don’t realize! It is important for our humans to learn our different barks so we can communicate better with them! It is also important though to listen to our humans and when then give us the command to “stop”, we need to learn to obey.

Good barking!!

I am a three year old German Shepherd from South Georgia.  I don’t really have a favorite toy because my favorite things are sleeping and getting petted on the head. Although if I do get up some energy I will admit that I love getting into the trash to look for napkins.

My brother Teddy is lots of fun to play with, plus he usually takes the blame for my chewing.  I really like him for that!  I love to bark a lot; sometimes my humans do not appreciate that so much.  I am SUPER special because I am a white German Shepherd and that is not so common I hear.
