Thunderstorms
Jasmine is extremely scared of thunderstorms. So much so that we can tell a storm is coming before the first crack of thunder. She paces and paces and paces with her tail between her legs, looking troubled and concerned. She glances up at me as if to say “aren’t you worried? don’t you get it?”. Sometimes I feel like she thinks I am too dumb to even be aware that it is about to storm or has actually hit and is thundering. Jasmine paces the entire house, looking for a place that is free from the storm. She cannot find that place so she just continues to look and look.
An invite to snuggle on the sofa is answered with the same look “why don’t you do something? can you not hear this? how can you just sit there? petting is NOT what I need right now!” You can read these comments in her looks and in her stance.
The last two days have been filled with storms on and off so she has had some stressful times. We have learned that there is no comfort that we can give that is sufficient and giving it too much attention only concerns her more. We have learned to continue on with our activities talking cheerfully to her as she paces and reaching down for a pet or two as she passes.
Jasmine has other phobias—another blog, another day.
What is your pup scared of? Thunderstorms also or something else? What do you do? Does any remedy calm that you have tried?
Waggin’ to you!
