Officemate mutiny

In the last couple of week’s Mike has had to go back to the office to work rather than working from his home office.  We thought it would be a little tough to adjust to; we have been sharing an office at home for a few years and it works well.  Mike and I have adjusted to the change although it is not perfect!

Jasmine however is in rebellion!  She misses her officemate and office time.  Not that I have kicked her out by any means, but she is holding a grudge against me for Mike leaving every morning.  Sure she will still take a walk with me and eat a treat offered by my hand.  BUT when it comes to sharing space with me—well let’s just say she is not so willing.  She does not, except on rare occasion in the last two weeks even come into the office.  Unless of course, I leave it.  I will return, she will look up from her pillow and if I sit down, she arises and leaves!  If she is on a couch in the family room and I walk in to snuggle up next to her, she looks at me, and you guessed it–promptly gets up and goes to another room.  We “play” this “game” all day.  I think in her mind I am locking her human out each morning and she is showing me her displeasure in this.

At the end of the day, when my computer is shut down and I am out in the kitchen she senses that Mike is coming home.  Dogs are so in tune with signs and routines that she knows her human is about to enter.  She lays by the door and whines, jumps on her hind legs so she can see out the window and goes absolutely crazy when he walks in.  She hugs him, wrapping her paws around his legs, she licks, whines and carries on.  When Mike comes over to kiss and hug me hello she promptly makes her way between us.

Part of me is sad that she is feeling stressed and confused by the change in our schedule; I will continue to do what I can to get her back to feeling happy and snugly during the day.  BUT the other part of me finds it fascinating–watching her reactions to our new schedule, watching her miss Mike and blame me is all so curious.  I can guess what she is thinking and concluding in all of this, but I will never know for sure since she is unable to confirm verbally to me.  BUT her actions tell it all I believe!

Have you had this experience?  Tell me how you got the happy waggin’ going again!

Our featured dog is Biko, a great “mutt” that is a mix of Golden Lab, Corgi and Chow.  Biko is 4 years old and lives in Georgia.  Biko loves playing with stuffed bunnies and a good game a tug of war is sure to bring a happy “grrrrroooowww”.  Biko is a snuggler and passes the day by “running like a mad man and then napping hard.”  Mom says that Biko’s eyebrows are so special and  a little rub in the armpits will bring on a waggin’ tail!
