Officemate
My career business (daytime job) is Information Technology. Because of the the required odd hours, and the wonderful advances in remote technology, I am able to carry out my support role in my home office. The setup in my home office is really quite amazing, and would be the envy of a lot of Business Offices. However, one thing that really makes it he uniuqe is a large three foot square pillow next to the Laserjet Printers. And on this pillow is my faithful officemate – Jasmine.
Most of the day we keep the french doors entering the office closed due to noise and other environmental factors. But closed doors don’t stop Jazmine from coming in. Her daily routine is to “paw” the door open, wander over to my desk for her morning petting, and then take her place square in the middle of the big three foot square pillow. The phones don’t bother her, as she maintains quite a comfortable and satisfied position on her pillow. The only time she really gets a bit indignant is when the printer run out of paper, and I have to move her pillow to get into the printer supplies for more paper.
Jasmine is a really good officemate. She doesnt spread the latest office gossip, doesn’t eat at her “pillow”, and doesn’t complain about the temperature or the lighting. On the plus side, she aalways listens intently to some of my crazy war stories, and sundry insults that I give the stacks of technology that enmass my desk area. It seems that most folks in corporate life want that corner window office, but I am extremely happy with my office and the officemate that I share it with.
